This was a serendipitous find in Cologne; a genuine tower from Roman times. It appeared to be joined to the adjacent building – so had enjoyed continuous use and maintenance.

I love the built in patterns in the brick work. Why can’t we show such care and attention to detail in our modern buildings? Compared to the building on the left of the picture – I know which style I prefer….

Bonn is a very pretty German City, full of beautiful and impressive buildings. However, when you have had enough of the hot bustle of City life, it is lovely to be able to wander along the path by the Rhine.

Following the Rhine, as it meanders through the heart of the City, you appreciate the cooler air and the lovely views across the water. There are rows of trees for shade and the alternative of a cycle route is offered. People are more relaxed here: jogging, walking the dog, reading or just enjoying the view.

Coming across this sun-dial, which agreed with my watch, was an added point of interest. Now, how many hours different is Bonn to London?….
